The East Mountain School provides an academic, counseling, and behavior management program as per each student`s IEP. Class sizes range from 8 - 12 students with a teacher and a teacher aide. School therapists carry a caseload of approximately 12 students per therapist. Students receive instruction in all of the major content areas each day in 40-minute periods. The curriculum is aligned with the Department of Education`s core curriculum content standards. Instruction in music, art, physical education, and computers/ technology is also provided. Students receive individual and/or group counseling once or twice per week (or more depending on what is in the student`s IEP). The counseling program can address a variety of personal social issues such as anger control, substance abuse, social skills, relationship issues, transition issues, etc. The behavior management program is designed to reward and recognize students for making progress towards their social/emotional/behavioral goals. Additionally, there are a variety of extra curricular programs including a sports program, community service program, yearbook publishing, talent shows, socials, special event days, guest speakers, cultural events and performances, and a graduation ceremony for seniors.
