The program provides outreach and individualized services for families in need of parenting skills education and support through a series of six to eight individual or group parenting sessions. Outreach is provided to engage and support those families experiencing greater stress and who require additional support. Individual and group sessions incorporate information on positive discipline and communication techniques while addressing each family`s unique parenting issues. Assessment and referral to long-term treatment is made when appropriate.

Community Child Care Solutions offers parents and the community free resources and referrals to all types of licensed and registered child care programs. Referrals are provided on the phone, on line, or in person by child care specialists. Each public referral includes technical assistance from a Child Care Specialist who will discuss types of care, quality standards, and the special needs of each child, as well as a packet of written materials. Under the vision of One Community, One family, EmPoWER FSC provides an environment to strengthen and empower individuals and families and builds connections among families and the community. Conveniently located in beautiful downtown Somerville, the EmPoWER FSC is easily accessible on foot, by car, and via public transportation. There is no cost to access supports offered by the EmPoWER FSC. Services include information and referral to Somerset County social service and crisis support agencies, evidence-based parent education programs, parent-child activities, child and teen programs, SAT preparation courses, employment workshops such as resume writing and job coaching, life skills training, physical fitness programs and advocacy. Positive Parenting was established in 1991 to assist parents in developing the heightened skills necessary to manage today`s daily challenges that face both parent and child. The program is made up of eight sessions, which can be attended in any order and is free of charge. The sessions address such issues as: how to end yelling, effective disciplining, relationship building skills, quality teaching techniques, setting goals for self and child, achieving compliance, and quality modeling skills. Time is allotted for questions that are specific to each parent`s need. Each session incorporates role-playing, handouts and classroom instruction as its learning tools. The sessions also embody humor and a relaxed atmosphere in order to enhance the retention of information.
