4-H Youth Development Program

The Rutgers Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development Program uses a learn-by-doing approach to enable youth to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to become competent, caring, and contributing citizens of the world. The mission of the program is accomplished by using knowledge and resources of the land grant university system, along with the involvement of caring adults. Learning-by-doing programs are offered through 4-H clubs, short-term special interest programs, and 4-H school enrichment programs. The educational programs offer boys and girls the opportunity to learn about a variety of subjects such as photography, model rockets, model airplanes, food preparation, go-karts, small animals, and many more.

The Council exists to support a variety of programs for boys of various ages and teen-age girls. The goal of all programs is to develop character, give citizenship training, and to promote physical and mental fitness. In addition to the traditional Cub and Boy Scout and Venturing programs, the council offers child abuse prevention training to adults and youth from community organizations as well as Scouting families at no cost.Exploring is a co-ed program for teens. Youth participants are organized into groups around interest areas leading to careers. Groups exist in medicine, law enforcement, aviation, and more. Learning for Life is designed to outreach to youth in urban centers or with disabilities that prevent them from participation in traditional programs. This program is offered in school during the day. It works on the same goals as traditional scouting, but does not include the out-of-doors dimension. It is designed to be a supplement to the teacher`s schedule with specifically prepared learning materials for the children, along with recognition pieces for achievement and a teacher`s guide with lesson plans.

There is no cost to access supports offered by the EmPoWER FSC. A safe haven is provided for teenagers of all ages. Every Friday from 6 pm - 12 am, youth are welcome to Fellowship Us. From 6 pm - 7 pm is an open relax and talk time. From 7 pm - 9 pm Bible study begins. After, (9 pm - 12 am) there are different activities, ranging from basketball, volleyball, and a host of other activities. The recreation activities are held at the Enrichment Center Gymnasium located in building number 2. There are different trips each month and basketball tournaments held twice a year. While in juvenile detention, youth are provided with educational, medical, recreational and social services. For those who wish to participate, spiritual services and substance abuse meetings are available. When ordered by the court, juveniles may be provided with psychological, psychiatric and substance abuse evaluations.

Juvenile Institutional Services - Home Detention Program (HDP)

The Home Detention Program provides case management, electronic monitoring, and regular face-to face contact for juveniles who would otherwise be placed in secure confinement. Youth and their parent(s)/guardian(s) are required to sign a Home Detention Contract in addition to the Case Plan created by the Home Detention Worker. By signing these documents, these youth agree to attend all required school programs, counseling, employment, and probation meetings. Failure to abide by the Contract and Case Plan may result in a juvenile`s return to detention.
