A Displaced Homemaker is a person who has lost their primary means of financial support due to separation, divorce, widowhood or disability of spouse. The Career and Life Transitions Center for Women focuses on providing quality services that will assist women gain personal and economic self-sufficiency and reach their full potential through education, training, job readiness and job search assistance, financial assistance, community referrals, supportive services and legal clinics and family law workshops.

Community based, in home, on-call case management services to adolescents aging out of the the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (formerly known as DYFS/ the Division of Youth and Family Services) system into independent living situations. The Individual Component includes: Life Skills training in education, employment, money management, etc. Case Management Client Advocacy Referral Services Supportive Counseling. The Wrap-Around Brokerage Services of the Chafee Fund is allotted to the Central Region of DYFS. This fund is to be used to assist three populations: Those youth who are working with Chafee funded independent living programs; Those youth who are under the supervision of aftercare agencies; and Those youth that were in DYFS placement on their 18th birthday have left care, but are in need of follow-up services from the aftercare agency.

The Center for Educational Advancement serves individuals needing assistance in entering or re-entering the work world due to disabilities or other work related disadvantages. This can include individuals with physical, mental health, or developmental disabilities. Individuals unemployed due to criminal record, basic skills deficiency, or addictions history may also qualify. The center serves ages 16 and older. The Center offers vocational evaluation, training, job coaching, supported employment, and rehabilitation services to those individuals seeking employment. Academic, career development, and transitional services programs are available to students (ages 14 to 21) through Spring Run School, a division of The Center. The TEAM Youth Program provides paid work readiness, evaluation, and training for out of school youth ages 16 to 21, who fall into at risk category.

The main purpose of the Somereset -Hunterdon Internship and Employment (S.H.I.N.E) Program is to provide youth with the necessary tools and resources so they can improve their academic success and employment skills to be marketable in the community. The S.H.I.N.E. program connects youth with work based readiness education along with paid internship experiences to prepare them for the workforce. S.H.I.N.E.`s objective is to provide support services and establish long-term relationships with youth to help minimize the challenges they are facing while shaping them to become responsible members of the community. The program will serve those youth ages 17-21, who are low-income based on the 70% lower living standard. Aid in gaining G.E.D. is offered. Youth must reside in Somerset or Hunterdon Counties and must face one or more of the following challenges: basic skills deficient, school dropout, disabled, homeless, runaway or foster child, pregnant or parenting, involved as an offender in the Juvenile Justice System and/or requires additional assistance to complete an educational program or to secure and hold employment. Priority will be given to adjudicated youth and veterans. Necessary documentation will be obtained to determine eligibility of the participants.

The availability of services depends upon current resources and the types of available services vary in each county. A division case manager is assigned to each individual to assist in coordinating services and supports. In addition to case management, DDD provides guardianship services to protect an individual`s rights and to ensure that care and treatment are appropriate. DDD also assists parents in becoming legal guardians of their adult children. Other services include: family support, residential services, day programs and supported employment services. Most of these services are provided through contract with private organizations or individual contractors.
