The main purpose of the Somereset -Hunterdon Internship and Employment (S.H.I.N.E) Program is to provide youth with the necessary tools and resources so they can improve their academic success and employment skills to be marketable in the community. The S.H.I.N.E. program connects youth with work based readiness education along with paid internship experiences to prepare them for the workforce. S.H.I.N.E.`s objective is to provide support services and establish long-term relationships with youth to help minimize the challenges they are facing while shaping them to become responsible members of the community. The program will serve those youth ages 17-21, who are low-income based on the 70% lower living standard. Aid in gaining G.E.D. is offered. Youth must reside in Somerset or Hunterdon Counties and must face one or more of the following challenges: basic skills deficient, school dropout, disabled, homeless, runaway or foster child, pregnant or parenting, involved as an offender in the Juvenile Justice System and/or requires additional assistance to complete an educational program or to secure and hold employment. Priority will be given to adjudicated youth and veterans. Necessary documentation will be obtained to determine eligibility of the participants.

The main goal of SCAAHS is to provide each student with structure, guidance and the academic foundation to complete his/her graduation requirements while still focusing on the behavioral, social, and/or emotional issues that previously hindered his/her success. These issues are addressed through onsite individual and group counseling, drug awareness programs, innovative attendance incentives, home district support, as well as cooperation from various outside resources. SCAAHS also offers career exploration/education, a mentorship program, community service, employment opportunities and training, as well as post-graduation preparation and assistance for both personal development and/or graduation credit.

The program provides academic and vocational courses leading to high school diploma and a skill certificate, supportive services including social and adjustment counseling, career counseling and information, Cooperative Industrial Education (CIE), and Work Study. Secondary age students who are interested in learning vocational and technical skills benefit most. Students may attend full-time or share time. Share time means they only attend Vo-tech for approximately two hours per day for vocational training while they spend the remainder of their day at their district high school in academic instruction.

TOPS serves as a surrogate high school program for students with ability who are not successful in their regular schools. It is an enrichment program with an individual emphasis supported by individualized plans for each student with the ability to receive full high school credit for all schoolwork completed. Students select vocational training from a variety of shops available. Intensive academic classes include special projects, community service activities, demonstrations, outside speakers, and field trips all of which are designed to enrich the traditional education process, allowing students the opportunity to learn and succeed in an innovative and unconventional program. Academic and personal counseling are also provided. The goal is to steer capable students back on the right track to graduation, a career, and success as an individual and a member of their community. Drop out prevention is their main goal. At the end of the school year, each student is given the opportunity to remain in the TOPS program, or return to their sending district.

The Twilight Program is a vocational and academic skills training program for youth throughout Somerset County who are between the ages of 14 and 21, who require extra attention and direction. The mission of the program is to prepare youth for the future by providing them with the skills, attitudes, and support needed to participate effectively in the labor market and/or to continue their education. Vocational training, academic instruction including HSPA preparation, tutoring and GED instruction, high school credit attainment, and individualized instruction, no cost to the student, is provided as well as an open entry and exit policy, supervised after-school program and transportation when available.
